THE HOLY SPIRITS VIEW

An unpeated Tobermory with the full wine treatment: fourteen years in red wine casks, bottled at 57.7% and exclusive to Ink. This is Tobermory’s fruity, citrusy side (the peated style is Ledaig) taken deep and dark by the wine, thick, jammy and chocolatey, with the distillery’s orange character still shining through. Rarely seen outside the distillery’s own exclusives.

THE DISTILLERY

Tobermory sits in the harbour town of the same name on the Isle of Mull, making two styles of single malt: unpeated Tobermory, bright, fruity and gently maritime, and the peated Ledaig. Tobermory itself is the lighter, fruitier of the two.

THE WHISKY: TOBERMORY 2008 14 YEAR OLD, RED WINE CASK MATURED

Unpeated Tobermory distilled in 2008 and matured fourteen years in red wine casks. Bottled at cask strength, 57.7% ABV.

TASTING NOTES

Tangy grapes, dark berries, sweet malt first, fading to a burst of orange and marzipan. Palate thick and honeyed, figs, raisins, blackcurrant jam, gentle oak, a shaving of dark chocolate, candied citrus and vanilla threading through. Thick mouthfeel, orange character lifting the wine depth. Finish sweet-dry, orange peel lingering. Chocolatey, jammy, very easy to like at this strength. Lovely.

Serve: Neat, in a Glencairn glass, with a few drops of water to open the orange and berry fruit.
