Michter's 10yo Single Barrel Rye
One of their most limited production items, Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye continues the legacy of America's first whiskey variety (rye) from America's first whiskey company (Michter's, originally known as Shenks). After a nearly three-year absence from the market, Michter's then Master Distiller Willie Pratt finally gave the green light for the re-release of Michter's 10 Year Straight Rye in April 2014.
Tasting Note
Rich and deep brown/old honey color; perfect purity. The first aromas are strong, nutty, and mocha-like; further sniffings following aeration pick up deep-seeded scents of walnut, new leather, flax/fiber, and soft cheese. Wow. The sweet and honeyed flavor profile bursts onto the tongue in the entry stage, then turns drier, grape seed-like, and woodier at midpalate. Ends up vanilla sweet, succulent, and incredibly honeyed. A tour de force rye whiskey that delivers at every level.
