La Solana 2022 - Suertes de Marques - Tenerife, Spain
La Solana is a single-varietal red wine of Listán Negro, a local variety. The grapes come from over 100-year-old ungrafted vines from the "La Solana" plot, 1.5 hectares with a northeast orientation at an altitude of 350-450 metres, and the soil type is volcanic with native plant cover. The vines are trained in a singular system of traditional Cordón and Trenzado and worked in an organic way.
THE WINERY
Suerte del Marqués is a Canarian bodega, located in the green valley of La Orotava, a well-known and beautiful vineyard area on the northern side of the island of Tenerife, at the foothills of the imposing volcano Mount Teide. Here, Jonatan Garcia Lima and his family have been producing their own wines since 2006, although the family has long been involved in wine-growing and selling their own grapes to other wineries.
Their estate has 11 hectares of vineyards on their property, which stretch from El Teide's lower slopes to 800 meters above sea level, growing on a diversity of volcanic-sandy soils and different orientations. Here can be found ancient vineyards, with many of the plots being more than 100 years old, centenary ungrafted vines of black Listán, the main red variety, and white Listán, the main white grape variety, also known as Palomino. Along with their own vineyards, they collaborate with local winegrowers on another 15 hectares of vines.
