Cote Rotie 'Sereine Noire' Gangloff 2018
The Mathilde and Yves Gangloff wine domaine nestling at the foot of the Cte Bonnette in Condrieu was founded in the 1980s. Yves and Mathilde have gradually built up the domaine through a series of fortuitous and decisive encounters. Yves started out as a vineyard worker, then together the couple acquired several plots of land, some planted and some uncultivated. Their first Cte Rtie and Condrieu wines were only released in 1989. The domaine, which now comprises 8.5 hectares of vines (3.5 hectares of Cte Rtie, 2.5 hectares of Condrieu and 2.5 hectares of St Joseph), was built up slowly on the foundations of simple, family values.
Both in the vineyards and in the winery, the expression of the terroir is carefully drawn out through winegrowing practices that respect nature and a winemaking process that places its faith in the raw material. Fully ripe grapes, in whole clusters for the reds, native yeasts, infusion and as little intervention as possible are the watchwords for the work carried out in the winery. The reds are aged for 23 months and the whites for 12 months, mostly in 300-litre barrels.
In 2011, daughter Elsa joined her father on the domaine and since then they have worked hand in glove to continue to create wines that are true to the domaines ethos and values and embody the typical character of their terroir. Today, she is continuing her parents work with her husband Aurlien and a dynamic, close-knit team of employees.
Domaine Yves Gangloff La Sereine Noire is made from 100% old vine Syrah that is at least 50 years of age. The grapes vines are planted in the Mollard and Cote Rozier lieux-dits, making this a blend of grapes from both the Cote Blonde and Cote Brune.
