Chorlton Ruadh Maor (Glenturret) 14yo
Chorlton's 1st Ruadh Maor release since 2018, and sadly now an endangered species as production ceased last year. This was matured in a strangely misshapen old marsala barrique.
The nose has cigars, peat-smoked chocolate raisins, coal bunkers, grilled pears, BBQ’d meat with burnt lemons and herbs and a pinch of garam masala. The palate has fantastic big, chunky, herbal smoke, with coal tar, sticky hoisin sauce, black cardomom and oranges. The body is huge, and develops on smoky caramel, BBQ sauce and salt & pepper ribs.
It’s bursting with character, this, with a nice background sweetness from the marsala cask that keeps everything fun and easy-going. There’s no other whisky quite like Ruadh Maor, and we should enjoy it while we can!
This refill marsala barrique produced 304 bottles at a cask strength of 57.3%
