Chorlton Glen Grant 18yo
THE HOLY SPIRITS VIEW
Chorlton’s first Glen Grant, a distillery they had long wanted to bottle, and a single refill barrel that gave up just 122 bottles. A classic Speyside profile of waxed banisters and stone fruit, with an unexpected edge of smoke.
THE DISTILLERY
Glen Grant was founded in Rothes in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant. Their nephew, Major James Grant, introduced the tall, slender stills with purifiers in the 1870s that define its light, clean, fruity style. Campari has owned it since 2006, and it remains hugely popular in Italy.
THE WHISKY: GLEN GRANT 18 YEAR OLD
A single refill barrel, bottled by independent Chorlton Whisky at natural cask strength, 54.0% ABV, with no chill-filtering and no added colour. Just 122 bottles.
TASTING NOTES
Classy Speyside, fruit and waxed banisters, red apple juice, apricot, butter, resin, Juicy Fruit gum, a thread of coal tar behind. Big orangey, peachy arrival on the palate, more Juicy Fruit, cider, wax, pink peppercorns. Stone fruit builds as the glass breathes, an edge of smoke and phenols adding interest. Finish very clean, apple rings, menthol, tons of barley. Delightful.
Serve: Neat, in a Glencairn glass. Let it breathe, as the fruit grows in the glass.
