Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat 2023
THE HOLY SPIRITS VIEW
Hudelot-Noëllat rarely needs an introduction among serious Burgundy drinkers — this is one of the Côte de Nuits' most quietly coveted addresses, with allocations that never come close to meeting demand. Even the village-level Chambolle, sourced from eleven parcels of 1955-planted vines, carries the same purity and precision that makes the domaine's Grand Crus so sought-after. A rare chance to taste that house style without a four-figure price tag.
THE DOMAINE: HUDELOT-NOËLLAT
Founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot in the village of Chambolle-Musigny, the domaine is now run by his grandson, Charles van Canneyt, who took over winemaking in 2008. The house style is defined by elegance and purity: destemmed fruit fermented in cement tanks, aged mainly in Cavin and Cadus barrels, from old vines farmed with real attention to soil health.
THE WINE: CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY 2023
This village-level cuvée blends eleven parcels across seven lieux-dits, planted with fine old Pinot Noir clones in 1955 — built to capture the appellation as a whole rather than a single site. 2023 brought a late-summer heat spike onto a balanced crop, giving the wine slightly more acidity and firmer, fine-grained tannin than a typical warm vintage. Matured in around 20% new French oak.
TASTING NOTES
Colour: Bright, medium ruby.
Nose: Fresh and lifted — cherries, red berries and orange zest, with a delicate floral top note.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied and satiny, a sweet core of strawberry and raspberry fruit carried on real freshness, with fine-grained tannin giving more backbone than a typical village Chambolle.
Finish: Firm and lingering, with a faint savoury edge.
Serve: In a Burgundy glass, at cool room temperature. Pairs well with duck, mushroom-based dishes, or a soft cow's milk cheese.
