Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru Drouhin-Laroze 2013
The Drouhin Laroze family owns 11.50 hectares of vines including substantial holdings in some of the most famous Grand Cru sites in the Cte de Nuits. It all began in 1850 when Jean-Baptiste Laroze started a vineyard in Gevrey Chambertin. The vineyards were later taken over by his son Felix, whos daughter married Alexandre Drouhin in 1919, who owned vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny. Five generations have been running the Domaine for over 160 years and since the 2014 vintage, Nicholas and Caroline Drouhin, the six generation, have increasingly taken the reins from their father Philippe.
"A deft application of wood frames restrained and distinctly cool aromas of various red berries, herbal tea, earth and a hint of smoked meat. The big, robust and imposing big-bodied flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration that coats the mouth and buffers the firm, dusty and seriously persistent finish. I like the balance and this should amply repay 12 to 15 years of aging."- Allen Meadows, InsideBurgundy.com
