Blackwater 'The Full Irish' - Irish Whiskey (50cl)
Even through we love Irish Whiskey we often find frustrating finding new and exciting new distilleries and brands - as most are launched on the market way before they're making "their own juice" and simply using existing liquid stocks from other distilleries, blending and bottling a whisky that is more of a "show of intent" of a style that the distillery will eventually aim to make.
Blackwater is NOT one of them and instead this is not only 100% their own distillate but also a proper, fun, "Full Irish" one.
What’s in the bottle? 45% Blackwater produced single malt, 45% Blackwater produced pot still (both five years old) and 10% seven-year-old grain whiskies, finished in stout casks from local Hopfully Brewing Company. This blend contains every permissible grain (barley, malt, wheat, oat, rye and maize), every type of Irish whisky (malt, pot still, grain) and then there’s the stout. What could be more Irish? Nothing. Except perhaps some black pudding but that’s not allowed.
As with all Blackwater products, it’s not chill filtered or coloured.
Aged in bourbon barrels, finished in Hopfully Brewing Company stout casks.
Head Distiller John Wilcox says: ‘refined, complex and bold.’
Judges Tasting Notes: ‘Perfumed and inviting, offering a complex aromatic display of puréed orchard fruit, biscuity grain and melted chocolate. The smoky palate reveals a creamy sweetness with hints of banana bread, before to a long, savoury finish of cocoa cake and citrus. Outstanding!’

‘Quite possibly one of the finest blended Irish whiskeys I’ve ever been lucky enough to try. it contains every permissible grain (barley, malt, wheat, oat, rye and maize) along with every type of Irish whiskey (malt, pot still, grain) before being aged in stout casks. A bold and rather brilliant release from the Blackwater Team.’
