Contrada G Passopisciaro
Located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, Passopisciaro is a pioneering project from acclaimed winemaker Andrea Franchetti, the sequel to that of his iconic Super Tuscan estate, Tenuta di Trinoro. Few places are more fascinating in terms of terroir than Etna, and Passopisciaro, alongside a handful of other producers, are responsible for the renaissance of this unique and truly expressive land.
Contrada Guardiola is a single vineyard site of 8 hectares planted with 100+ year old Nerello Mascalese vines, at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. This is the first area purchased by Passopisciaro and where the winery is located. The grapes are carefully selected and hand-harvested at the end of October/early November. The wines undergo a quick fermentation in stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic and 18 months aging in large oak barrels.
Rich and juicy with fleshy red fruit and smoky mineral tones. Volcanic DNA, muscular with chunky tannins. Smooth, precise and complex - absolutely delicious!
